This book is not yet featured on Listopia. I have been having a hard time “getting” poetry. I understand the loose idea of it, I’ve read some that I kind of liked and I know its a more expressionist art form using written word.
But that did not make it easier to really connect with. Sometimes knowing things elementakes stupid.

This collection of poems I picked up by Neruda, however, made me feel feelings. Some were good, some were bad, some were funny and some were odqs. But I got them. Well, some of them. Some I just had no clue what was I have been having a hard time “getting” poetry. Some I just had no clue what was going on but it was alright because when I had some feeling it made poetry come alive.
And not just this poetry, others as well. I found myself with an intense interest to see others. I found some on Tumblr blogs and picked up some new books at my ds book store. I continue to commit myself to trying out and exploring this part of writing and even trying it myself. Ben Belitt’s translations of Neruda have remained my favorite.
My mouth moved as I read the spanish verse, then the english, then back again the spanish, as my seatmate on the train watched curiously over his notecards. Neruda assumed his pen name as a teenager, partly because it was in vogue, partly to hide his poetry from his father, a rigid man who wanted his son to elementalew a “practical” occupation. With his works translated into many languages, Pablo Neruda is considered one of the greatest and most influential poets of the 20th century. Neruda was accomplished in a variety of styles ranging from erotically charged love poems like his collection Twenty Poems of Love and a Song of Despair, surrealist poems, historical epics, and overtly political manifestos.
In Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature, a controversial award because of his political activism. When Neruda returned to Chile after his Nobel Prize acceptance speech, Salvador Allende invited him to read at the Estadio Nacional before 70, people.
During his lifetime, Neruda occupied many diplomatic posts and served a stint as a senator for the Chilean Communist Party.
Later, Neruda escaped into exile through a mountain pass near Maihue Lake into Argentina. Years later, Neruda was a close collaborator to socialist President Salvador Allende. Three days after being hospitalized, Neruda died of heart failure.
