Fs2004 Freeware Ground Textures 1024x1024
Four months waiting for it, after FS2004 release, and finally cleared for landing just before Christmas: Mega Airport Barcelona X. Sim-Wings designed photo real textures on buildings, objects, vehicles, added high resolution day and night textures, and AESLite for service vehicles and traffic. Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Lockheed Martin Prepar3D v1 have texture resolution limit, which is 1024x1024 pixels. It is possible to select higher resolution by manually editing configuration files but Drzewiecki Design Grass will do that for you automatically! In FS2004 1024x1024 pix is the top limit. Default FSX and P3D sometimes looks bad. Desert-like terrain in Europe or USA is an example of this problem. Solve this and other issues with free textures.
Does not concern ORBX FTX Global users
If you already have or intent to buy ORBX FTX Globaladd-on – you do not need replacement textures that I am writing about in this article. Actually – I recommend FTX Global as a better solution! It comes with the price tag of 99 Australian Dollars. If you prefer freeware add-ons – there are two that I would like to recommend today.
Adama Mills’ Textures (Europe and USA)
Adam Mills dealt with the worse problem of FSX textures – desert-like terrain covering large parts of Europe and USA. I have no idea what went through the minds of Flight Simulator X developers when they decided that sandy-yellow ground textures are appropriate in Poland, Germany, France or in the northern states of the U.S… The terrain in Italy or Greece looks terrible. Fortunately – there is a solution – thanks Adam!
Adam Mills created a replacement texture package that solves the desert-terrain problem in Europe and United States. Take a look:
You need to remember that there are limitations to what this textures change. It’s not a complete package of replacement textures (like the FTX Global or GEX) – it’s just a fix for deserts – you will see no change in places where the textures are correct – like in Germany on the screen below:
Mills’ Textures – download and installation
Download
You can download Adam Mills’ textures from FlightSim.com. Type Adam Mills in the search engine. You will get 8 files for FSX USA Ground Textures and another 8 for FSX European Ground Textures. Download all of them.
Installation
To install these textures you need to extract all the files and move them to:
SceneryWorldTexture
inside your main FSX or P3D folder. As always – I recommend that you backup your files before you proceed with the installation – the easiest way is to make a copy of the entire folder.
That is all!
Mills’ textures – a must have!
For me Mills’ textures are among the most important add-ons for FSX. I can not imagine flying without them over Europe and USA.
Aime Leclercq – a better seasonal textures (for entire World)
Terrain colors in FSX are unrealistic. Fortunately – there is a way to fix them – Aime Leclercq (that I introduced in my previous article) created textures that have improved saturation and vibrancy.
Like with the previous add-on – they are not changing much in terms of what you see – the pictures on the ground show the same terrain features. They only change the colors or tones. That is the difference when compared to FTX Global and GEX.
Leclercq’s textures – download and installation
Download
This time I used Avsim Library. Type Aime Leclercq in the search engineand download all files called:
- Spring Textures Replacement – Part…
- Summer Textures Replacement – Part…
- Fall Textures Replacement – Part…
- Winter Textures Replacement – Part…
Each package is divided into two parts.

Should you use this add-on? Yes!
In my opinion this is one of the add-ons that you definitely should download and install.

Performance impact in FSX and P3D?
I did not see any impact on sim performance. I do not think there should be any.
